Emotionally-focused Couples Therapy

Learned historical patterns and unconscious emotions can block your ability to experience the connection and intimacy that you long to have with your partner. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) was developed by Dr. Sue Johnson in the 1980’s. Sue noticed that couples were in distress when they didn’t know on a deep level if the other person was truly there for them and could be counted on to be emotionally responsive and engaged.

As a certified Emotionally Focused Couples therapist, I use EFT in order to help you and your significant other identify, understand and heal common patterns of relating. As you begin to understand the underlying hurts, fears, longings, and unmet needs that are evoked during your conflicts, you will realize fairly quickly that it’s usually not about what you thought you were fighting over.

Through making sense of unhelpful patterns, we create a secure connection within the relationship that leads to greater empathy and understanding. The more you feel this secure connection with each other, the more you will be able to solve typical conflicts on your own.
