Body-centered Psychotherapy
Body-centered psychotherapy helps you address your concerns not only through talking, but also by helping you become deeply aware of your bodily sensations as well as your emotions, images, and behavior. You become more conscious of how you breathe, move, speak, and where you experience feelings in your body. Attending to your nonverbal felt experience allows you to “get in touch” with important psychological or emotional material that had previously been inaccessible through words alone.
Although simply talking about concerns and discussing important issues can lead to great insight, insight alone is often not enough to create lasting change. By including your bodily sensations, and the feelings, emotions and images that go along with them, we can uncover material that was previously unconscious. This allows us to attend to and bring healing to these previously hidden parts of yourself and can lead to greater self-acceptance and positive changes.
As you become more conscious of how you are breathing, moving, speaking, and where you experience feelings in your body, important psychological or emotional material becomes more accessible than would have been possible through words alone.
