Voice Dialogue Therapy
The Voice Dialogue process was developed by Doctors Hal and Sidra Stone over a couple of decades, beginning in the 1970’s. Although I trained with the Stones in the 80’s, I still consider it to be one of the most transformational tools in my therapy practice.
Voice Dialogue is a method of contacting and bringing loving attention to various parts of yourself. In a collaborative spirit of curiosity, non-judgmental acceptance, and wonder, we will listen to and learn about the multitude of different aspects or “subpersonalities” within you.
Some common subpersonalities that you may be able to relate to are the “Perfectionist,” the “Nurturer,” the “Inner Critic,” the “Vulnerable Child,” the “Protector,” and the “Pleaser.” And there are perhaps an infinite number of parts of all of us – some are conscious and some unconscious, some are accepted, and some are pushed away.
The structure of voice dialogue provides a safe space to explore and give voice to these various aspects of you. We may connect with parts of you that are nurturing, joyful, loving, or full of awe and wonder – as well as parts that are sad, hurt, frightened or angry. You will have the opportunity to experience the “energy” of each of these parts, and how each one feels. You will learn that you are much more than you ever imagined yourself to be, and that you have many hidden gifts and strengths. This can lead to a more fulfilling life with more choice and freedom.
